Staff of the Assembly on the Standing Committee

Uniting Church in Australia Assembly staff will no longer be eligible to seek election for the Assembly Standing Committee under a motion brought forward by the Standing Committee (SC).

Any SC member who is appointed to a position with the Assembly or any of its agencies would, likewise, become ineligible to remain on the SC.

Day 2: Opening worship

The foundation of a true multicultural church lay in the good news from God received through Jesus Christ, members of the 14th Assembly were reminded this morning by Rev. Dr Apwee Ting.

Presenting the reflection at the opening worship service, Rev. Dr Ting – who was appointed National Director for Multicultural and Cross Cultural Ministry with the Assembly in May 2015 – said the true witness of a multicultural church was a willingness to share in ministry and leadership.

Stuart McMillan installed as President

Singing with their ‘Hearts on Fire’, children of the Uniting Church in WA began the installation of the incoming President of the Uniting Church in Australia to members and guests of the 14th triennial Assembly, held in Perth this week.

After a welcome to country by Rev. Sealin Garlett, Chair of the Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress WA, youthful representatives shared prayers with the congregation for the vastness of our land, the redness of the Earth, the green plant life, the colours of the earth and the clear white of the creator. Colourful balloons and fabric created a warm backdrop for the moving service.

Welcome Stuart McMillan

Stuart McMillan of Darwin will today be installed as the 14th President of the Uniting Church in Australia (UCA).

Mr McMillan takes up the role after five years as Moderator of the UCA’s Northern Synod in Darwin and more than 30 years working with Aboriginal people in northern Australia.

Uniting Hearts To Warm Perth’s Winter Spirit

More than 300 members of the Uniting Church in Australia from across the country will gather in Perth over the next week for the Church’s 14th triennial Assembly meeting.

The week-long meeting, which sets the Uniting Church’s national priorities for the next three years, begins on Sunday 12 July with the installation of incoming President, Stuart McMillan.
