Condolences for Niuean Church leader

It is with deep sadness and regret that we advise the Assembly of the death of Rev. Aifolia Poumale last night.

Rev. Poumalu was the President of our partner church Ekalesia Kerisiano Niue (Congregational Christian Church in Niue). He had accepted the invitation to attend the Perth Assembly but advised us a few weeks ago of his inability to attend.

Rev. Aifolia Poumalu was only 44 years old. He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.

Please uphold Rev. Poumalu’s family, the Congregational Christian Church community in Niue, and the extended Niuean diaspora community in Australia in prayer during this time of loss and grief.

The Congregational Christian Church of Niue is the largest religious denomination in Niue, where 75% of the population are members. The church was founded in 1970 by missionaries from the London Missionary Society.

The educational sector of the church provides bible study classes to the only two government schools in the region and Sunday schools to the congregation. The main church activities are the training of the laity, the ministry of the youth, and the boys and girls brigade.

The women’s fellowship, the Federation of Christian Women includes women from different denominations and is also made up of female members from each congregation. The Congregational Christian Church of Niue is a member of the Pacific Conference of Churches and the World Council of Churches.
